Collaboration and Grit
In Flint, we know it takes work to overcome adversity. Our unique ethic of grit and collaborative spirit guide the never-say-die efforts of the city's residents, community-minded businesses and institutions that work together to support the city’s vitality. Together, we are homing in on the city’s assets: colleges and universities, parks and green spaces, and opportunities for art and culture.
University Outreach of the University of Michigan–Flint is a strong example of the city’s rallying forces, pairing academics and research with authentic community engagement. Its Discovering PLACE program works with the city’s schools to weave curriculum around community and local environmental projects, deepening learning and creating hands-on stewardship.
U-M Flint’s Harvesting Earth program and Flint River Farm are part of a growing citywide movement to transform abandoned, trash-filled lots into inspired spaces reflecting the optimism and vitality of Flint.
Together, we are homing in on the city’s assets: colleges and universities, parks and green spaces, and opportunities for art and culture.
In addition to green spaces, Flint’s brick-lined streets have become a draw for runners of the Crim races, as well as thousands of car and motorcycle buffs who drive to Flint for our automotive-themed festivals Back to the Bricks and Bikes on the Bricks.
Community efforts to rejuvenate Flint are producing results, bringing both visitors and long-term residents to our city. Downtown student housing is filled with new faces, and residents are rediscovering the true value of Flint’s homes and neighborhoods.
It’s true, Flint’s residents know a lot about adversity. But we know a lot about hope, too.
