Beginning in 2003 as a Main Street America Coordinating Program, Michigan Main Street (MMS) has assisted communities across Michigan interested in revitalizing and preserving their historic traditional downtowns or commercial districts. The work of the MMS program has impacted communities across the state, while also receiving national recognition.

The Main Street Difference

Michigan Main Street (MMS) assists communities interested in revitalizing and preserving their traditional commercial district. In 2020, Boyne City, MI was named the winner of the 2020 Great American Main Street Award, a national competition that recognizes exceptional Main Street communities each year. Two years prior, the city of Howell, MI was named the 2018 Great American Main Street winner for its achievement in transforming the downtown district into a cultural destination through community-driven economic development and placemaking efforts.
