A key part of MEDC Community Development's efforts to foster vibrant, diverse, and sustainable communities is to promote training, continuing education, and information sharing at the local level. To meet that goal, MEDC Community Development provides learning opportunities in various formats including an online learning system, webinars, resource pages, in-person training, and workshops. Stay up to date on recent legislative changes to the state's Brownfield Tax Increment Financing (TIF) program. Representatives from MEDC, EGLE and MSHDA provide quarterly updates and a question and answer session. Watch past webinars and access presentations here.
In person trainings happen throughout the year and include the Redevelopment Ready Communities (RRC) Best Practice Series, the Michigan Main Street Training Series, RRC regional workshops, Small Business events, and others as needs are identified. In person trainings offer a chance to not only learn valuable material but also network with other staff and officials from communities throughout Michigan.
MiPlace eLearning is a free, online learning system available to any staff, official or local stakeholder. Accessing training through this system allows a more casual, at-your-own-pace training experience that can be completed at any time of day and from anywhere with a good internet connection. Local officials change seats frequently and have so much on their plates. The RRC Virtual Academy provides an opportunity to learn the basics about Redevelopment Ready Communities and how your community can benefit from being engaged in RRC and pursuing the Essentials or Certified path. Throughout the series MEDC staff will be hosting guests to talk about their experiences in their professional fields, and what tools and resources have helped them get there. Topics will range from Historic Preservation, Real Estate Development, Small Business Growth and more. There will also be an opportunity to learn how MEDC and Partners tools have supported the goals needed to complete a project.
Developer’s Toolkit
MEDC has assembled the developer’s toolkit to provide resources and awareness to individuals wanting to step foot into the real estate world. The toolkit has been built to ensure there is equal access to the MEDC community development programs and services. Outreach, training, and support is being prioritized to underrepresented areas of the state.
