Permit Ready Housing Plans
The Redevelopment Services Team is piloting "permit ready" housing plans to streamline project approval processes for pre-approved housing types. These open source stamped housing plans and handbooks are available for any community in Michigan.
These permit-ready housing plans are made possible through the partnership with the MEDC, the Michigan Municipal League (MML), the City of Grand Rapids, and Driven Design, LLC.
Housing Designs
We are offering a series of proposed housing layouts, designs, and densities for the construction of duplex, and quadraplex residential development. These proposed plans are both architecturally contextual to a “traditional neighborhood” and sized appropriately for typical vacant lots in cities across the state. In total, five (5) complete plan sets were developed which include three (3) duplex and two (2) quadraplex housing options.

Pattern Book Homes
The MEDC has partnered with the Michigan Municipal League to offer the Pattern Book Homes manual and plans to communities across the State of Michigan. This manual and the accompanying housing plans touch upon the history of housing development in the United States and Michigan, including the duplexes and fourplexes commonly constructed until the mid-twentieth century. It offers models for intertwining smaller-scale housing options into the existing urban fabric.
